Betta Balunga

BETTA BALUNGA (Herre, 1940)

Betta Balunga is one of the betta fish from B. Akarensis Complex.

There are currently 73 recognized species in this genus. The currently described Betta species can be grouped into complexes for conservation purposes (This grouping of species makes no claim at representing a phylogenetic reality).

Distribution:
Type locality is a ‘tiny brook tributary to the Balung River, 45 miles from Tawau, British North Borneo’ which corresponds to a locality in Tawau Division, Sabah Province, Malaysia (Borneo).

Mouthbrooding, also known as oral incubation and buccal incubation, is the care given by some groups of animals to their offspring by holding them in the mouth of the parent for extended periods of time.
